![]() Book six left in quite a cliffhanger with Dex missing kidnapped right from Sloane's arms without him noticing. We're finally back with Dexter ‘Dex’ Justice Daley (35? 36? How old are they now?!) Defense Agent for Destructive Delta (used to be a homicide detective the Human Police Force) and his Team Leader Sloane Brodie (37? 38? 39?), who's also his jaguar Therian partner and lover, centering the book. I mean, we see the rest of the crew as well, but not as much as in the previous books, and don't get me wrong, I love when the crew are together, but I think this book was very needed where we got to see D & S hit another level of depths in their relationship. They are absolutely amazing together and their love is quite powerful. who's the top of the food chain? Who is the most feared? The most rare? Did Charlie Cochet ever mention this? Anyways, I adore Dex and Sloane together. One question what's the order in which Therian species is the most powerful? I mean, they got lions, tigers, jaguars. That being said, I did skim some bits as I'm still struggling with focusing, but it was a whole lot less than the other re-reads in the series. I love that the book is actually quite focused on them and their relationship rather than a big case. I love Sloane and Dex's relationship, it's beautiful. This book is one of the better in the series. ![]() I want more books that are quite animalistic, possessive and feral. But Dex and Sloane's relationship gets even stronger. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Review Quotes This brilliant, gorgeously written, highly entertaining, and apparently light-hearted idyll quickly reveals its true nature as a powerful and profoundly disquieting meditation on the meaning of loyalty and betrayal, innocence and corruption, truth and deception. A tale of seduction and betrayal, of accommodation and manipulation, of weird humor and unforeseen violence, this classic of twentieth-century literature is above all an extraordinary reckoning with the secret reasons and otherworldly realities of childhood. Its dreamlike action begins among the decayed plantation houses and overwhelming natural abundance of late nineteenth-century Jamaica, before moving out onto the high seas, as Hughes tells the story of a group of children thrown upon the mercy of a crew of down-at-the-heel pirates. Book Synopsis Richard Hughess celebrated short novel is a masterpiece of concentrated narrative. ![]() ![]() ![]() Due to this diagnosis, educating people on the varying degrees of blindness has become of passion of hers, right alongside writing, which she plans to do as long as she can. When I began to write this text, first I jotted down my impressions after a first reading. It seems that the message “we don't want to anger anybody” was emphasized at the expense of clarity. Then upon a closer and more careful reading, while trying to pin down its defects, you recognize that its faults are not so often glaring omissions, but including everything, while not embodying or rejecting anything. But it does so in such a way that upon the first reading, you come out with a gist of their intended message, as well as a critique of its failings. The challenge with engaging this text is that it really does take many things into consideration. ![]() Yet responding in kind, I'll drop the name of those authors and texts I've tastefully plagiarized, to point to where I'm coming from, and to whom I'm corresponding with. Since my reply to it is not academic, I will not engage with the ideas of each of the big-name authors they cite. ![]() The name-dropping in “Joyful Militancy” serves to confer it academic standing, and to point out where they're coming from, and what they're intended audience is. The authors want to make like Marie Kondo and give joy through organizing, and she'd be happy to stumble on such a big mess. A book that made militancy more shameful still, by attempting to re-brand it as joyful. ![]() ![]() ![]() In June of 1816, an eclectic group gathered at the summer residence of famed poet Lord Byron in Lake Geneva, Switzerland. Lord Ruthven, in John Polidori’s The Vampyre (1819). Let’s take a look at each of these monsters, their origin, and a little of their influence on the character of “The Count”. There were at least 3 precursors, or forefathers, to the modern vampire, stretching back to a dreary summer night in Lake Geneva in 1816, which also produced one of the other great monsters of literature. It is worth noting, and not generally appreciated, though, that Dracula was not the first vampire in literature, nor even the first popular vampire in literature. ![]() Of course, vampires have lurked in the shadows of folklore through recorded history, and Stoker drew upon that folklore in the development of his own tale. The depiction of the vampire which we see in most of contemporary horror fiction has its roots in Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897). ![]() ![]() But eventually the lure of the sugar and cocoa is too strong. ![]() If you're weird like me you drink tea with your chocolate so that your mouth is always warm enough to soften it before you chew and it spreads over your tongue and makes a layer of deliciousness that you wash down with yet more tea. You try to eat the rest of it- the bar, the bag of chocolate chips, those little Dove eggs- slowly, and for a while it works. You know that first piece of chocolate, the small piece you take because it's a treat and maybe you haven't had it in a while and you want to savor it? And you roll it around in your mouth a little, let it get all melty, experience the taste as fully as possible. ![]() ![]() I've said it before and I'll say it again: This book is like chocolate. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() International Premiere Partners Joining Include Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max EMEA, Lionsgate Play, SYN and Wavve The 12-part series stars emerging talent Alison Oliver, Sasha Lane ( American Honey, The Miseducation Of Cameron Post), Joe Alwyn ( The Favourite, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk) and Jemima Kirke ( Sex Education, Girls).ĮNDEAVOR CONTENT BRINGS GLOBAL BROADCASTERS INTO ELEMENT PICTURES / LENNY ABRAHAMSON TV ADAPTATION OF SALLY ROONEY’S CONVERSATIONS WITH FRIENDS It has picked up the NZ, Australian, Canadian and African rights to Conversations With Friends, the second collaboration from author Sally Rooney, Endeavor Content, Element Pictures ( The Favourite, Room, The Lobster) and director Lenny Abrahamson ( Room, The Little Stranger, Frank). ![]() Amazon Prime Video’s latest addition to its burgeoning streaming library in this market is a new series from the creator of Normal People (above). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Otherwise, let’s first check out what makes up a good review.Īre you interested in becoming a book reviewer?
